Sage Advice Saturday: The Power of the Bath

Nowadays with the trendiness of bathbombs, baths have become a sort of self-care fad. But there's a lot to be said for act of a purifying, calming dip in the tub. I think it's an important part of taking care of your body, and if you're conscious of what you put into your bath, you'll also strengthen your magic.

So let's talk herbal washes and spiritual water. You can find them at many witch shops online and in person. And the best part about them is that they've done all the hard work for you! Many come with instructions on how to use them in magical baths. My basil water instructs:

"Basil spiritual water is used to attract good luck, protection, and to wash away bad influences and against the evil eye. Use daily on your hands and body and sprinkle around your home and business."

My rue water explains:

"Pour approximately half a cup of the bath into a tub of warm water. Stir the mixture. While bathing, concentrate on your desires. Bathe every day for seven days. Repeat process until you get your desire."

And in general, basil is used in spells of love, exorcism, wealth, and protection. Rue is used for healing, psychic powers, exorcism, health, and love.

You can also be conscious of the soaps you use--I often aim for lavender, sage, and mint (partly because I love the scent and partly for their powers).

Lavender brings love, protection, sleep, purification, happiness, and peace. Mint appeals to money, lust, healing, exorcism, and protection. And sage carries the powers of wisdom, protection, and granting wishes.

Lastly, I'm all about adding raw salts and herbs. Personally I love using (from left to right) rosemary, lavender, sage, eucalyptus and lavender epsom salts, rose buds, and mugwort.

Rosemary is used for protection, love, lust, psychic powers, exorcism, purification, healing, and sleep. Eucalyptus fosters healing and protection. Rosebuds offer love, psychic power, healing, divinatory power, luck, and protection. And mugwort brings strength, psychic power, protection, prophetic dreams, and healing.

So the next time you're planning to take a bath, consider what you'll put in it and how it can benefit you and your magic. A weekly soak might be exactly what you need!
